3D Model & 2D Plans for the Reconstruction | Burgdorf Train Station

At 1:30 a.m. on the morning of June 5, the attic of the Burgdorf train station was ablaze. Five hours into the fire department’s operation, hardly anything remained of the roof.

What follows after a night like that is hard, methodical work: reconstruction. And reconstruction without reliable as-built data means guessing—about the structural integrity, the connections, and everything else that the firewater and heat have altered.

SBB has commissioned us to conduct a new survey of the building. The on-site survey will result in a 3D model and 2D plans of the building’s actual condition—not based on old plans from the archives, but on what is actually there today.

It’s in moments like these that you realize what as-built data is really for. Not to sit in a drawer, but for exactly the day when everything suddenly has to be replanned.
