Initial Situation
An existing single-family home with an appearance that seems conventional at first glance—but with an interior layout that’s quite something: an open gallery level above the main living area, a freestanding fireplace serving as a space-defining element, a single-flight spiral staircase spanning multiple levels, and a roof structure featuring offset ridges, dormers, and cantilevered wooden purlins.
The client needed a reliable as-built documentation—as the foundation for upcoming renovation planning.
Services Provided by VDE
VDE fully surveyed the building using terrestrial 3D laser scanning. From the point cloud, a structured BIM model was created featuring:
Result
The as-built model provided the planning team with a precise, three-dimensional foundation—no interpretations, no measurement gaps. In particular, the spatial interplay between the gallery, staircase, and roof geometry would have been only partially captured using conventional manual measurement methods.
