As part of the ongoing redevelopment of the Basel SBB train station, the existing station footbridge and adjacent areas were precisely surveyed using 3D laser scanning. The heavily trafficked station is one of Switzerland’s most important transportation hubs and handles large passenger flows daily. Accordingly, a reliable baseline of the existing structure is crucial for renovation and refurbishment work.
On-site, the footbridge was fully surveyed using modern laser scanners. This produced a high-resolution point cloud that accurately captures the geometry of the existing structure.
Based on this data, a structured 3D CAD as-built model was then created. The model digitally represents the existing infrastructure and serves as a precise basis for planning, coordination, and further interventions as part of the station’s ongoing development.
