Building Surveying During Normal Operations | Basel Marketplace

Today we’d like to tell you about a fantastic project we’ve been working on recently—the building survey at Marktplatz 30 in Basel. This is a location of great significance, situated right in the heart of the Old Town and home to a wide variety of functions, ranging from offices to restaurants and parts of Basel’s own municipal administration.

What makes this location so special is its strategic position. Just think about how Basel’s famous shopping street, Freie Strasse, leads directly into Marktplatz. It’s a place teeming with life and high foot traffic—a truly prime location.

Now, with a planned renovation of this building on the horizon, a reliable and comprehensive assessment of the existing structure was essential. Our team tackled this challenge with professionalism and enthusiasm. Despite the building’s size and the fact that it was fully operational at all times, we completed the survey in just one and a half days. Yes, you heard that right—one and a half days.

How did we manage that? Well, thanks to a well-coordinated team using three laser scanners operating simultaneously, combined with the experience to flexibly handle unforeseen challenges right on site.

The result? A 3D CAD model that contains all relevant information about the building. When you look at the cross-sections, you can see the complexity of this property—and that, ladies and gentlemen, is invaluable for further planning.
