Historic Preservation of a Row House Development | Friesenberg Quarter, Zurich

In the family-friendly Friesenberg neighborhood in southern Zurich, houses stand side by side: 69 townhouses that all look the same at first glance. Since the neighborhood was designated a protected historic site last year, new requirements apply to future renovations.

Previously, renovations and modifications could be planned with considerable freedom, as long as they complied with building code requirements. However, with the designation as a protected site, additional requirements have been introduced: Every structural change must now comply with historic preservation guidelines to preserve the neighborhood’s historic character.

And this is exactly where our contribution comes into play: Using precise laser-scanned data, we have created a highly detailed 3D model that will serve as the basis for future building permit applications.
