In the middle of Steinmaur stands a building that had become a confusing labyrinth of different architectural styles and heights over the years. Each era and each owner had added new elements, removed old ones and complicated the structure further and further.
Architects tried in vain to unravel the history and structure. The few existing plans were contradictory and the documents incomplete. But then the architect came up with the idea of using modern 3D point cloud data.
Precise measurements were taken with laser scanners and the data formed the basis for a detailed 3D model. This made it possible to clearly identify the various construction phases and structures. The building was thus transformed from an opaque puzzle into an understandable and efficiently analyzable 3D CAD model.
