The whimsical journey of planning. In the Stone Age, our ancestors carved plans on rocks - yes, rocks! "If the mammoth comes this way, watch your hut!"
In the Roman Empire, architects already had penchants for elaborate drawings. They sketched Colosseum plans to make sure gladiators and lions didn't wander into the kitchen.
In the Dark Ages, parchment was all the rage. Architects designed castles so complex that they themselves didn't know how to get out of them.
Then came the Industrial Revolution and with it the era of factory-fresh plans. "Here, sir, is the plan for your steam engine. Good luck putting it together!"
In the '90s, computer-aided design (CAD) emerged, and at last engineers no longer had to look like artists at the easel. "With the click of a mouse, we create worlds!"
Today, (almost) everything is digital. Do you still have plans from the past? Send us your old plans - we'll be happy to digitize them for you.
