When comparing quotes, did you check whether modelling is done directly in your CAD?
Recently, we have often had projects where we have to remodel 3D models in IFC format from various providers around the world in ArchiCAD, Revit, Vectorworks or Allplan.
This raises the question: when comparing offers, have you checked whether the models are created directly in your CAD software?
Many people think that you can simply export a model as an IFC and import it into ArchiCAD or the CAD used internally in order to edit it.
Unfortunately, such imports often lead to problems, as many IFC objects are not recognised as adaptable elements. One example is window objects, which are treated as ‘dead objects’ after import into ArchiCAD, making it necessary to completely redraw them in order to edit and plan them efficiently. This causes additional costs and time expenditure and can even impair the progress of the project.
Creating models directly in native format is more cost-effective and efficient in the long term. ArchiCAD offers many tools for Pointcloud to 3D CAD that speed up the modelling process.
In our opinion, the IFC format should primarily be used as an exchange format for collaboration between different BIM software solutions. Editing IFC models is often less flexible than expected, so it is advisable to choose a partner who creates models directly in the CAD software used. This saves you time and money and avoids potential frustrations.
