The Biasca locomotive depot A look into the past with a step into the future.
When the Ticino valley railways began operating in 1874, the Biasca locomotive depot opened its doors and wrote an important chapter in the history of the Swiss railway.
But with progress came change: the introduction of electric operation led to a gradual reduction in activities in Biasca until the depot was finally closed in 1990. Despite these changes, the buildings were preserved and used for new purposes.
Today, we have the unique opportunity to build a bridge between the past and the future using state-of-the-art laser scanning technology. In doing so, we supported SBB with a 3D inventory model to preserve the valuable evidence of Swiss railway history and at the same time create the basis for integrating it into the present.
