Survey of the Castle Grounds for Preservation Purposes | Laufen Castle, Canton of Zurich

Set against the backdrop of the Rhine Falls, cultural heritage, and modern architectural design, a digital foundation for the future of the entire site was created at Laufen Castle. Commissioned by Villa Nova Architects and the Building Department of the Canton of Zurich, VDE created a precise 3D Archicad model of the entire castle complex.

Using state-of-the-art 3D laser scanning technology, the historic building fabric was digitally captured in meticulous detail. In addition, the existing 2D plans of the visitor center were converted into a complete 3D model and seamlessly integrated into the overall model.

This resulted in a comprehensive digital planning basis that now makes large portions of the entire castle grounds available in both 2D and 3D. Particularly for complex existing-structure and historic preservation projects, this combination of precise surveying and intelligent 3D modeling provides the necessary planning certainty for future renovations and further developments.
