Several buildings - Entire areas - Area-wide referencing

3D large-scale projects & site developments

If an entire area has to be recorded - several buildings, large areas, grown structures - an area-wide georeferenced 3D as-built model is created. All buildings in a common coordinate system. A common planning basis for everyone involved.

What a site model can do that individual models cannot

Modeling individual buildings separately does not solve the basic problem with site projects: without a common coordinate system, there is no spatial connection between buildings, access routes and open spaces. An area model brings all buildings together in a geo-referenced manner - this is how area potentials, building relationships and development scenarios become visible and plannable.

Typical projects

Plans from different erasLarge areas are rarely created from a single source. Decades of extensions, conversions and adaptations leave behind plans with different scales, reference systems and plan statuses. There is no consistent overall view.

Lack of an area basisArea balances, floor area figures and usage proportions can hardly be reliably determined from old individual plans - the basis for development decisions is missing.

How your 3D site model is created

Site-wide laser scanningThe entire site is systematically recorded - with terrestrial scanners and, depending on the size, with several scanners simultaneously. All buildings are recorded in a common georeferenced coordinate system. No building in isolation, everything in context.

Consistent overall 3D modelBuildings, access routes, outdoor spaces and height ratios are modeled and coordinated across the entire site. The result is a spatially consistent overall picture of the existing building.

**Area analyses ** The model allows immediate evaluations: Floor areas, usable areas, room volumes - structured, reliable, directly usable for feasibility studies and user requirement programs.

What the site model does

Spatial overview at site scaleBuilding relationships, access routes, height differences and open spaces become visible in context - the basis for reliable development decisions.

Common basis for all parties involvedArchitects, developers and investors work on the same digital basis. No loss of information, no contradictions between different planning statuses.

Basis for usage planning & scenariosDevelopment scenarios, usage distributions and intervention depths can be run through on the model - before expensive planning steps are initiated.

Typical projects

  • Large site developments and transformation projects
  • Campus facilities, universities, schools
  • Large residential developments in existing buildings
  • Historic districts and ensembles
  • Hospital facilities and medical infrastructure
  • Commercial and industrial sites with several buildings
  • Complex multiple properties

Who is a 3D CAD model suitable for?

Site models are used where several buildings, large areas and many participants come together:

  • Architectural and general planners
  • site developers
  • Real estate owners
  • investors
  • Builders of larger transformation projects
  • Cantons & municipalities

VDE and major projects

VDE has specialized in the digital recording of large building stocks for over fifteen years. Our workflows are designed to efficiently record entire areas, merge them georeferenced and transfer them into consistent planning bases - with projects throughout Switzerland.
