In the case of newer buildings or with effective facility management, high-quality 2D plans may well be available. This was also the case with our Pilatus Markt project in Kriens. The existing 2D data was solid, but the planning team decided to plan the future of the shopping center in 3D.

Converting 2D plans into a 3D model requires in-depth knowledge of building structures and the ability to interpret the plans effectively. Without experienced 3D modelers, this process can quickly descend into chaos.

So is 3D digitization nonsense? No. Even though we appreciate the advantages of 3D laser scanning, there are projects where 3D vectorization based on existing plans is the more efficient approach—provided the 2D foundation is solid and the team has experience.
